The White Flag Award, which was developed by ILAM is now in its ninth year.   The award is designed to provide a quality standard for swimming pools, sports halls, fitness studios, health suites, spas and gyms.  The White Flag 'Quality’ Award recognises high standards of excellence in health and leisure facilities and the White Flag Jury includes Fáilte Ireland, the Irish Hotels Federation, County & City Managers Association, Environmental Health Officers Association, Town clerks Association, Northern Ireland Sports Council, Consumers Association of Ireland, Irish Water Safety and RLSS Ireland.  The White Flag awards criteria ensures that fitness and gym instructors are properly qualified, facilities are clean, hygienic and safe and that equipment is maintained correctly.  A leisure facility can reach a very high standard, offering the best possible service.

METRE TO A MILE
IN AID OF GOAL

Swim, Walk, Run, Cycle or Row "A Metre to a Mile" in aid of GOAL

GOAL LogoPeople of all ages across the west and south of the country are gearing up for the annual ‘A Metre to a Mile’ challenge on Friday, November 27th, to help raise as much money as possible for GOAL’s projects in The Developing World.

Children, adults and everyone who is young at heart will be putting on their sports gear to swim, walk, run, cycle or row any distance from one metre to one mile for GOAL at any of the Kingfisher Clubs in Galway, Waterford, Mayo and Clare to help improve the lives of the poorest of the poor.

GoalThe events will take place at the Kingfisher clubs in Renmore, NUIG and Ballinasloe in Galway, and in other Kingfisher clubs in Waterford, Castlebar and Ennis. Non-members are also eligible to take part and will have free access to the club during their own fundraising challenge. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, ‘A Metre to a Mile’ Goalhas become a popular annual event as people can do as much as they are able - and at their own pace. Over the past two years ‘A Metre to A Mile’ has raised over €60,000 for GOAL and helped to build two schools in Malawi and five houses in Uganda.

“We are hoping that as many people as possible will make the effort to take part in the challenge this year,” says GOAL’s Ronan Scully. “It is a great and fun way to raise money for people who so desperately need our help. The funds raised from this year’s event will go towards building and rehabilitating much-needed water and sanitation facilities for children who are attending schools in Calcutta, India.”

Sponsorship cards are available at www.goal.ie or www.kingfisherclub.com and people looking for more information can contact GOAL’s Ronan Scully on 087 6189094 or the Kingfisher Club on (091) 773344 or (091) 570800.
