Always on the leading edge of new developments the Kingfisher Club in Renmore ushered in the New Year with the introduction of a new Core and Stretching Section for members.

This Section will contain a host of new stations with the specific equipment to help in targeting the body core areas of abdominal's and back muscles. A chin/dip and leg raise machine, back extension, and Thera-Krunch abdominal machine will form the base of the area with additional stations situated around this. Stability devises such as the Reebok Core Board, Bosu, and a Wobble Board will allow members to work core muscles in a variety of ways and which can deliver results in a short space of time.

A complete rack of medicine balls and Power Bags, used in conjunction with the stability devises, will allow members to devise their own workout programmes and work off their own initiative.

Organisers Joe Cosgrove (Kingfisher Club) and Ronan Scully (GOAL) say this is a fun event for the young and old, the experienced and inexperienced swimmer. Anyone can come along and have a splash; it is open to members and non-members. Just get a sponsorship card from either the Kingfisher clubs or GOAL, raise as much as you can and come along anytime on the day to take part in the swim at your own pace.

According to Joe Cosgrove ‘A Metre to a Mile’ Swim for GOAL“ is an event for everyone who cares about the plight of vulnerable people in the developing world”. “We are hoping that as many people as possible will make the effort to take part in the Swim for GOAL” says GOAL’s Ronan Scully. “It is a great and fun way to raise money for people who so desperately need our help. The funds raised from this event are going towards building two schools in Malawi by GOAL, one of the poorest countries in the world”. People are urged to raise sponsorship for this event by getting sponsorship cards from the GOAL West of Ireland office on 091 587901 or from the Kingfisher Club in Renmore on 091 773344 or go to www.goal.ie or www.kingfisherclub.com .

“All that is involved in the Swim is that people get sponsorship cards, get people to sponsor them, turn up anytime on Friday, 16th November at the Kingfisher Club, Renmore, hand in their sponsorship cards and money and swim or splash! It’s that simple.”

After a very successful Members Indoor Triathlon, we have decided to turn it into a Winter League. Tony Mc Nichols and Fiona Lane were first home for the 500M Swim, 10K Bike and 5K Run. Others took part for their first time making a great achievement on the day. Complimentary Smoothies from Paula in the Delight Café provided a welcome boost afterwards.

Ask any member of staff of the Renmore Club for details on our next Triathlon and for any assistance on the best way to prepare.

Watch our Gym notice boards for our Concept II Indoor Rowing Challenge and New Year Gym Challenge.

We are also working on an Inter Club Challenge where you can represent your club and compete against other Kingfisher Clubs, ask at reception for further details.
